Hola senoritas! I just got back from the airport so I'm kinda sleepy as I'm typing this. Anyhoo, I want to feature Lorde's Royals in this blog post to match this galaxy attire from Apartment 8. Who doesn't like Apartment 8?! Filipina bloggers like Tricia Gosingtian and Camille Co are endorsing it so you can't go wrong with the style. I love 'em! :)
Okay moving on to the song meaning... The 16-year-old singer-songwriter 'Royals' has broken records by becoming the first New Zealand solo artist to have a number one song in the United States. She knocked Miley Cyrus off her “Wrecking Ball” to top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. She's that good huh?
Let's talk about the song meaning alrighty?! I read a blog on Dailymail.co.uk that she's been accused of being RACIST because of her song 'Royals'. I don't know why some people make a big deal out of it, just coz she mentioned "gold teeth, Maybach and diamond-encrusted watch" (which generally cost half a million dollars). The Dailymail blogger said she's talking about the luxe life of Lil Wayne and Jay Z. What the heck?! Well that's her song interpretation okay, I respect that. But I think the lyrics is about rap and hip hop songs she's hearing on the radio. I'm sick that they always make everything about race when it clearly isn't.
Just let her song do all the talking: “When I wrote Royals, I was listening to a lot of rap, but also a lot of Lana Del Rey, because she’s obviously really hip-hop influenced, but all those references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and beautiful cars – I was thinking, ‘This is so opulent, but it’s also bullshit.’”
“I’m not thinking when I’m writing, but with my lyrics everything is personal. Everything has happened to me and all those things help to build up this kind of fabric that people can hopefully relate to." -listener
And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.
God I love that song! Okay enough about Royals. I wanna thank my friend Mitch Hernandez for this photos. She's like my art director and photographer, super talented! We shot this in Pearl Manila Hotel where I broke the card key and paid one dollar. Hahaha! Anyhoo, this outfit is inspired by galaxy dresses I saw on some US fashion blogs.
